The Brisbane Bullets have elected not to activate their option on the final year of Chris Smith's contract.

The Brisbane Bullets have declined to exercise the option on the finals year of import wing Chris Smith’s contract, which means the sharpshooter is now a free agent heading into NBL25.

Smith catapulted himself into early Best Sixth Man conversations in his solitary campaign with the Bullets due to his red-hot scoring exploits off the bench, and hit a game-winner against eventual champions Tasmania in Round 15.

The 30-year-old arrived in the NBL fresh off a nomination into the Japanese B. League’s ‘Best Five’ after representing the Chiba Jets alongside former Perth Wildcat Vic Law.

The Bullets released a statement around Smith’s departure from the club that simply stated they “wish Chris and his family all the best moving forward”.

The news comes after Brisbane confirmed they would be taking up the options on the contracts of Tyrell Harrison, Casey Prather, Mitch Norton and Isaac White ahead of next season, and Norton had signed a further two-year extension.

NBL free agency officially opens on April 15.
