“I’ve heard the name DJ Steward…. This is a high level two guard, scoring guard.”

With Melbourne United’s new head coach Jacob Chance in Las Vegas looking to secure the final pieces to his team’s puzzle, ESPN’s Olgun Uluc is reporting how that could look over the next few weeks.

“There’s three import spots, they intend on filling all of those spots and the main one is that point guard,” Uluc said on Monday.

“Jesse Edwards is one, they want a high level five, but they want a point guard, even if it’s a two guard, they want a primary guard.

“I’ve heard the name DJ Steward…. This is a high level two guard, scoring guard.”

The 24-year-old guard is playing for the Portland Trailblazers at Summer League, and he displayed every part of his firepower in a two point loss to Phoenix. Uluc has heard that these are some of the many names that have been on United's whiteboard in recent weeks.

“They want a stud in that one or two spot,” Uluc added.

“Whatever position they get there will dictate their third import spot.

“A name I’ve heard that’s been thrown around that team as one they’re interested in is David Duke Jr.

“We saw him at Perth last year, think of a Swiss army knife type, and I think that’s what their third import spot will be.”

Duke Jr averaged over 12 points and three assists in 19 games for Perth last season, as he dealt through an elbow injury in the process.

Chance and majority owner Travis Knipe continue to shop for the final pieces to a group that is bolstered by marquee locals in Chris Goulding, Joe Ingles and Sam Waardenburg.
