The Sydney Kings’ championship defence reportedly received a huge boost on Thursday, with superstar Kendric Davis reportedly re-signing with the club.
Both the club and ESPN's Olgun Uluc announced the news, pending NBL approval.
NBL26 Championship Series MVP Davis is said to have agreed to a bumper two-year deal with the Kings, which would make him the second-highest paid player in League history (behind Adelaide’s Bryce Cotton), according to Uluc.
In his second season in the Hungry Jack’s NBL, and first in Sydney, Davis averaged 25.1 points, 7.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game to guide the Harbour City side to its historic sixth title.
Following that dramatic championship, secured in overtime of Game 5 against Adelaide, Davis explained what that the Kings meant to him and how much he'd love to return.
"If I'm not in the NBA, I'll be back here," Davis said.
"You don't find too many organisations that don't believe the hype and do their own research, and they did. I'm a loyalty guy. They mean the world to me."
It was during the Hungry Jack's NBL26 campaign, in which he finished second in the League’s MVP vote behind Cotton, that he said he “wanted to be the future of the League".
Davis, who joins Xavier Cooks, Matthew Dellavedova, Jaylin Galloway, Keli Leaupepe, Tyler Robertson and Jason Spurgin on Brian Goorjian’s NBL27 roster, will get the chance to prove that proclamation when Sydney’s season tips off against Cairns on Sunday, September 20, at Qudos Bank Arena.
