New signing: 'I'm Adelaide's missing piece'

36ers signing Kendric Davis can't wait to play alongside "the best shooter in the league".

Adelaide’s newest signing Kendric Davis says he can be the “missing piece” for his team heading into the NBL25 season.

Davis fills the all-important point guard spot for the 36ers, after signing a one-year deal last week.

While he’s still young, at just 25, the American has already played a season in the G League, putting up impressive numbers. He averaged 18 points, 7.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds with the Santa Cruz Warriors in his most recent season.

Now, he’s eager to provide the perfect complement for the team’s local stars, Isaac Humphries and Dejan Vasiljevic.

“I’m the missing piece to the puzzle at the point guard spot,” Davis told the 36ers’ website

“I like the style of play of playing fast, getting up and down and being able to play my game and get everybody involved.”

Davis said a meeting with Adelaide coach Scott Ninnis at the NBA’s Summer League, and regular communications with GM of Basketball Operations Matt Weston had ultimately made the decision an easy one.

“He (Ninnis) told me there are a bunch of shooters around me, I have the best shooter in the league next to me (Vasiljevic) in the backcourt, so that’s a good start,” he said.

“Matt reached out to me a long time ago and he knew I had a chance of getting a two-way (deal) or a roster spot in the NBA.

“… but he kept going and going and the past few weeks they picked it up very aggressive, they sat down with me and talked to my mum.

“I got the green light from mum, so I’m very happy.”

Adelaide showed great progress late last season under then interim coach Ninnis, who will take the reins permanently for NBL25.

The 36ers have added valuable experience around Ninnis, bringing in experienced coaches Mike Wells and Marko Marinovic

They’ll be looking to build on a ninth-placed finish last season, with Davis set to play a key role in any potential rise.

“The last few days (since the signing) has been great ... just soaking the moment in,” he added.
