Kings add free agency frontrunner on a three-year deal

Tuesday, April 30, 2024
Bul Kuol has signed with the Sydney Kings on a three-year deal with a mutual option.
One of the NBL’s premier wing players is heading to the Sydney Kings on a long-term deal, following the announcement that Bul Kuol will link up with the NBL22 and NBL23 champions on a three-year deal with a mutual option.
Kuol has played his entire NBL career to date with the Cairns Taipans, and was named as the NBL’s final Rookie of the Year prior to the inauguration of the Next Generation Award.
The now 27-year-old also hit 64 three-pointers in his Rookie of the Year-winning NBL22, which is the NBL record for a rookie.
The former California Baptist and Detroit Mercy collegiate player was named as one of the key dominoes in free agency by ESPN’s Olgun Uluc, and he has joined Keli Leaupepe, Tyler Robertson and Izayah Le'Afa in signing for the Kings.
Kuol says the lure of winning an NBL title is what has led him to the Kings.
"The Kings are an established club, that has a proven track record of success, so to have the opportunity to be a part of all that was really exciting and a chance I jumped at," Kuol said.
"I've never won any championships in my career and I feel Sydney is the best spot for me to try and end that.
"Not to mention having the opportunity to play for coach Goorjian, who is a master of his craft, and play closer to home were big factors in my decision to sign with Sydney.
"I want to build a legacy during my time at the Kings and I'm hungrier than ever to finally win that title."
Head coach Brian Goorjian believes Kuol is primed to become the best defender in the competition under his tutelage.
"Bul is one of those players you can build your team around, thanks to his ability on both sides of the ball as a premier three-and-D player," Goorjian said.
"With the group we now have in place, he's a vital piece in that and has all the tools to be the best defender in the league - as he can lock down multiple positions on the court.
"After an up and down season last year with Cairns, I feel he's ready to blossom into the player I know he can be in Sydney and play a huge role in getting us to where we want to be as a club."
