How a 400-game veteran steered Cameron’s big move

"He’d give me a lot of advice, and everything he said, I just took it all on board."
Flynn Cameron credits a former NBL star for helping pave the way for his move to the Adelaide 36ers.
Speaking to the club’s website, the former Melbourne United guard revealed it was Jason Cadee who sold him on the vision to join Mike Wells’ squad.
“I’ve got a great relationship with Jason Cadee, who had been there for some time,” Cameron said.
“He reached out to me. We had a couple of conversations, and he just said that Adelaide is a great spot for you - and Jason’s never steered me wrong in the past.”

Cameron has had a connection with Cadee for a long time.
During college breaks in the US, he'd return home to train with the Gold Coast Rollers NBL1 squad - a team that featured the 424-game NBL veteran.
“He’d give me a lot of advice, and everything he said, I just took it all on board,” Cameron said.
“He’s always somebody I can talk to. He used to play with my dad back in the Gold Coast Blaze days, so I just thought, 'I trust Jason'. I also trust Anthony Petrie, who used to live down there and play with the 36ers, so when people I trust have good things to say about Adelaide, I thought, ‘Let’s do it'.”
Cameron made 67 appearances for United over two seasons, averaging 4.6 points and 2 rebounds per game.
Adelaide's squad isn't dissimilar to what he’s used to - brimming with elite talent like Bryce Cotton, Montrezl Harrell, and Dejan Vasiljevic, just as it was in Melbourne with Matthew Dellavedova, Chris Goulding and Jack White.
The 24-year-old says he’ll embrace the opportunity to play with another high-level group.
“After talking to coach Mike Wells, I called DJ before I made the decision - and this was before they signed Bryce and Montrezl and Zylan (Cheatham),” he added.
“I had no clue they were going to sign. That’s just made it a whole lot more interesting - even better for us.
“We’ve got a bunch of high-level players, highly talented guys, players that know the league - you’ve got the league MVP coming back.
“Trezz (Harrell) had a great year and he’s coming back, Cheatham’s coming back after being great for the Breakers, and then you look at the other pieces: Matt Kenyon, Isaac White, Michael Harris - not to mention Isaac Humphries and DJ, two stars themselves.
“I don't think talent's going to be an issue at all this year. I think we’ve just got to put in the work day by day, gel together as a team, and then anything is possible.”
Minutes are going to be tough to come by in Adelaide, but Derek Rucker believes Cameron could play a key role.
“I think Cameron and White are the two guys that have the opportunity to carve out good minutes for themselves,” he said.
“I think the primary point-of-attack defender is going to have to be Flynn Cameron- just to take the pressure off DJ and Bryce Cotton.”
