Wildcats legend calls for hero's welcome

A blockbuster Wildcats–36ers clash will celebrate Bryce Cotton’s return to RAC Arena, with Damian Martin calling for respect before both sides lock in for a crucial Sunday showdown.
Sunday's RAC Arena fixture between the Perth Wildcats and Adelaide 36ers is going to be massive, as it marks Bryce Cotton's first game back at the venue since his high profile off-season switch.
The club has announced it will play a tribute video and undertake a standing ovation for their former star, while six-time champion Damian Martin has called for "respect and love" from the Wildcats' fans.
"I’d like to think he’ll be shown nothing but respect and love, because he’s always given that to the Red Army and his teammates. On the first time Bryce is back in Perth, let’s say thank you," Martin told The West Australian.
"Then once the ball is thrown up, the first time he touches he should get a warm reception and then he can get treated like another opposition player."
Bryce Cotton is a $479,900 guard in the NBL’s official fantasy game, Beat The Coach, presented by Choice Hotels. Take on Damon Lowery and Beat the Coach in any round of the NBL26 Season and you’ll receive an entry into the end-of-season $10,000 prize draw, including $5,000 cash and $5,000 Choice Hotels™ gift voucher. Wildcats owner Mark Arena said the club wanted to honour Cotton's incredible contribution.
“I’ll be the first one to give him a standing ovation after the video. I hope everyone is standing. He is a legend of the club. We will thank him for that and celebrate that,” Arena said.
“We love Bryce. The club loves Bryce. The Red Army loves Bryce.
“Bryce has been a legendary member of the team and the club. He was a great contributor with five MVPs and multiple championships. We need to recognise that wherever he goes.
“There wasn’t a proper goodbye with the way we went out of the semi-finals in game three over in Melbourne. That was hard because he was out of contract after that game finished.
“Hopefully, this is a bit of closure for us as a club and also for our members.”
Sunday's clash at RAC Arena tips off at 4.30pm AEDT, live on ESPN and Channel 10.
