'Winning never gets old': Why NBL champ chose Phoenix

Ian Clark is excited to be able to contend for another NBL championship after signing with the South East Melbourne Phoenix.
South East Melbourne recruit Ian Clark has tasted success wherever he's played, both in Australia and abroad.
During his time in the Hungry Jack's NBL, Clark helped the Sydney Kings win the 2021-22 Championship, while being a key part of Melbourne United's NBL24 and NBL25 Championship Series squads, which saw him named the competition's Sixth Man of the Year.
Prior to that, he won the 2017 NBA title with the Golden State Warriors.
So when it came time to choose his next stop at the Heartland club, following a deep playoff run in Puerto Rico, he said "winning never gets old."
“Any time you get a chance to play for a championship, you can’t take that for granted, no matter the league.”
Clark will get the chance to play alongside former Kings Jordi Hunter and Angus Glover again, now adds extra firepower to the 13-6 Phoenix, ahead of what the club hopes is a successful post-season run.
“When we step between those lines, it’s business,” Clark said to Phoenix Media.
"We’re putting ourselves in a good position, but it’s about taking it day-by-day and playing our best basketball at the end.
“[Personally] I'll try to be consistent on both ends [for us to be successful].
“Defence is about effort, and I take pride in that. Offensively, I’m a shooter, but I can also handle, initiate, and relieve pressure.”
South East Melbourne travels to MyState Bank Arena on Monday night to play Tasmania from 7.30pm AEDT, live on ESPN.
