Wildcats weigh move for playmaking point guard

"He's a six-foot point guard, an absolute floor general."
Perth Wildcats fans are eagerly awaiting the club’s first major move of the Free Agency period, and speculation is growing that it could involve a high-energy point guard with NBA credentials.
According to Olgun Uluc, the Wildcats’ powerbrokers are believed to be showing strong interest in 28-year-old Zavier Simpson, who is currently representing the Los Angeles Clippers at Summer League.
Simpson turned heads in his most recent season, earning All-EuroCup Second Team honours as the league’s assist leader, while also claiming a Romanian League title and Finals MVP.
“(He's) coming off a really good EuroCup, a really good competition. He averaged 18 and 8, led the EuroCup in assists,” Uluc said on The Marketplace.
“He's a six-foot point guard, an absolute floor general. If you haven’t seen him, he’s got that patented hook shot. Really unique, really effective.
“That interest from Perth, I’m told, is quite strong. When you speak around the gym, the Wildcats really do like Zavier Simpson. That wasn’t just a throwaway line, they’ve genuinely reached out.”
Simpson impressed in the NBA’s G League during the 2023/2024 season, posting 19.7 points and 8.1 assists per game. He also made six NBA appearances with the Memphis Grizzlies, averaging 6 points across those outings.
Earlier in his career, Simpson had a stint with Oklahoma City during the 2021/2022 season.
