Weaver’s pitch seals Hinton deal

Star Brisbane import Nate Hinton has revealed new coach Will Weaver played a key role in convincing him to join the club.

Hinton, who has represented three NBA teams and established himself as a strong performer across five G League seasons, said he was immediately impressed by Weaver’s vision for the Bullets.

“From the first conversation with Will, it was just great ... a great introduction,” he said.

“So, I called my agent right after the conversation. I said I was kind of sold.

“It was just his (Weaver's) experience. His experience of being in the NBA, his also experience in coaching and also what he's trying to build.

“Being able to have this opportunity and to be able to sign the Bullets and to do something special and to build the roster, build a team, and just build something special. Brisbane is a great, a great city, and now it's a great organisation. And so now we're able to move forward.”

Hinton averaged 15.9 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2.4 steals a game in his most recent G League campaign.

He now joins a Bullets roster featuring several important pieces, including local stars Tyrell Harrison and Sam McDaniel, as well as fellow import and Lithuanian guard Arnas Velička.

“I'm just excited to be a part of the culture, be a part of something, building something special and go from there. Go Bullets,” Hinton continued.

“I'm glad to be a part of the NBL. I've heard about it, seen about it, and now being able to be a part of it, it's just an exciting feeling, an exciting time.

“So, I'm excited to get going and excited to get down to Brisbane, be a part of the Bullets, and do something special this season.”

Hinton is renowned for his defensive ability and versatility, but the 27-year-old is determined to contribute at both ends of the floor.

“Just bringing everything that I bring to the table, just the defence, offence, and just being adaptable,” he said.

“I've worked extremely hard on my game and I'm sure everybody has worked extremely hard on their game as well on the team.

“So, everybody just doing their job and doing their part. We don't have to get outside of ourselves. We don't have to do anything that's out of body, but we may have out-of-body experiences. But at the end of the day, we just trying to win and compete and band the team together.”

The Bullets open their Hungry Jack's NBL27 Season at Pat Rafter Arena on Tuesday, September 22 against New Zealand.
