36ers map out key moves ahead of NBL27

Adelaide has outlined its key roster priorities, targeting defensive upgrades and core re-signings ahead of the NBL27 Free Agency period.
With the NBL27 Free Agency period fast-approaching, the Adelaide 36ers are making plans of how they can go one step further in the Hungry Jack’s 2026-27 season.
As it stands, six-time MVP Bryce Cotton, Zylan Cheatham, Cameron, Isaac Humphries, Dejan Vasiljevic, Isaac White, Ben Griscti and Michael Harris (club option) are all contracted.
During his media availability on Thursday, 36ers GM of Basketball Matt Weston explained the club is close to announcing the re-signing another one of its core.
“We've agreed to terms with a player whose contract is just going through the NBL right now, and that's a main player, so we've got another one locked away,” Weston said on Thursday.
“We've got another two guys that we're just talking through to see if this is where we want to be and how we want to go through that.
“I'd like to think in next week or so we'll have a bit more vision around that pre going into the Free Agency.”
One area that Bryce Cotton says the team needs to address is a ‘long, athletic defender’.
“It [defence] is something we want to improve in,” Weston said.
“We can be much better in that and that's going to come down to some personnel.
“We want to deepen our roster, because we're built to win now, so that's the opportunity we have with Bryce Cotton.
“My focus is trying to get some players in and keep the momentum going. Everything's full steam ahead.”
One key piece in the 36ers’ Championship Series rotation that hasn't re-signed is John Jenkins.
While it’s been suggested that the former NBA sharpshooter could leave to make way for extra defensive help, Weston explained the club is open to bringing Jenkins back.
“[We may] potentially [fill that spot with someone else], but we like John [Jenkins]. He brings a lot to the group,” Weston said.
“What we're doing is going through, this is what we had this year. What are the gaps? What could we be better at knowing now where basketball's heading? It's evolving all the time.
“Now, identify these are a couple of players and play style that we'd like and how we go through that ... but it would be good to get John back if possible.”
The NBL27 Free Agency period opens at 9am AEST on Friday, April 17.
