Perth captain Jesse Wagstaff has urged his team to 'zero in on an identity' ahead of Saturday's clash with the Breakers.

Perth Wildcats captain Jesse Wagstaff has urged his team to make quick adjustments after Saturday’s opening-round loss to Tasmania.

While the six-time NBL champion appreciates that his squad are still coming together, after a lack of time on the court during the pre-season, he also knows how important a quick response is.

“Credit to Tassie, I take nothing away from them, but I don’t think that game was a representation of how we want to play, the style we want to play or what we want to be known for,” Wagstaff said in his post-game press conference.

“We’ll evolve, but this league, you can say it is a long season, but it also goes pretty quick, so you’ve got to learn pretty quick. We are one game in but we should learn from that. It starts at practice but hopefully we learn from that and realise that’s not the way we want to play.”

As Wagstaff alluded to, his Wildcats will aim to have a strong week on the training court and make some adjustments ahead of Saturday’s trip to Spark Arena to face the winless Breakers.

“A week of practice will be good. We’ve got to iron out some of those kinks and really try to zero in on an identity and what we want to do in certain areas,” skipper Wagstaff said.

Their Round 2 Hungry Jack’s NBL26 clash tips off at 5.30pm AEST on Saturday, broadcast live via ESPN.
