Schueller frustrated with how Bullets got hurt

"I don’t know if we can field a side right now."

The Brisbane Bullets have had a horror injury run all season which continued on Saturday night with coach Justin Schueller not happy with the conditions in Traralgon as they scramble to pull together a team on Wednesday night.

The Bullets have suffered injuries all through NBL25 which has included Sam McDaniel (shoulder), Jarred Bairstow (ankle) and James Batemon (hamstring) having their campaigns already ended.

Those were bad luck injuries, though. What happened on Saturday night were injuries suffered by Josh Bannan (knee), Emmett Naar (oblique) and Deng Adel (groin) that were contributed to by a slippery court surface according to Schueller.

That's where the frustration spilled over for a team having not had a single game at full strength, and taking on the South East Melbourne Phoenix already without Tyrell Harrison, and with Josh Adams, Rocco Zikarsky and Keandre Cook just back from injuries.

"We were frustrated with the safety of the venue before the game and we raised those issues, and we've taken I think another four injuries throughout this contest," Schueller said.

"That's just a frustration right now that we need to get some answers on and when we had our bodies we showed that we were as good, if not better, and that's the thing that I'm really proud of with the group.

"We stuck to the plan, we knew where our advantages were and executed what we were trying to do. Then there was a period where it just got too tough for us.

"That one hurts in that sense and full credit to Phoenix, but we were really disappointed how some of the comments were when guys got injured, but we'll remember that for the future."

Schueller and the Bullets won't have a clear picture of whether the injuries suffered by Adel, Naar and Bannan will sideline them for Wednesday's clash with Perth, or if Harrison will be right to return from concussion symptoms, until they return home.

With Zikarsky, Cook and Adams having just come back from injuries too, and Mitch Norton hurting his hand against the Phoenix, there's going to be a lot to digest but Schueller knows whoever is out there will compete hard against the Wildcats.

"Ty got symptoms basically once we got here so we're not real sure when he'll be back, it's way too early to tell," Schueller said.

"Obviously with concussion you never want to mess around with that so we'll take that one day by day. Honestly until we get back to Brissie we really don’t know what the extend of it is.

"The early assessment is that we're probably going to be without all three (Bannan, Naar, Adel) so I don’t know if we can field a side right now is the sad part about it.

"Whatever we put on the floor, I know those guys are going to give 100 per cent and the pride we have in this group and how we go about it every day shows that we believe in what we've got."
