South East Melbourne Phoenix have secured defensive powerhouse John Brown III on a one-year deal for NBL26. The EuroLeague veteran adds size, strength and experience to the Heartland roster.

South East Melbourne Phoenix have confirmed their final import for NBL26, securing defensive powerhouse John Brown III on a one-year deal.

The 6’8” forward adds extensive EuroLeague experience to his career resume, having most recently suited up in Serbia for Crvena Zvezda.

“John is a defensive beast, he can rebound, push pace and distribute and create offense with pace,” General Manager of Basketball Operations Simon Mitchell said.

“With his size and high basketball IQ, he’ll fit perfectly into Josh King’s game style and we look forward to welcoming him into the Heartland.”

Brown has earned a strong reputation as a defensive anchor on every team he has joined, while using his length and athleticism to impact both ends of the floor.

He joins Hunter Maldonado and Vrenz Bleijenbergh as the core imports for the Phoenix in NBL26. One local roster spot remains open, set to complement Nathan Sobey, Angus Glover, Owen Foxwell, DJ Mitchell, Jordan Hunter, Gorjok Gak, Akech Aliir and Next Star Malique Lewis.
