Son of a gun: Wildcats sign Rillie

Jaron Rillie joins the Perth Wildcats after an impressive college career, linking up with his father and head coach John Rillie to strengthen the team’s backcourt depth for NBL26.
The Perth Wildcats have announced the signing of Jaron Rillie, following a standout college career in the United States.
Rillie, the son of current Wildcats coach and former NBL Champion, John, spent the last two seasons with the University of Colorado, averaging 14.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists this year.
“I’m really excited to be joining the Perth Wildcats and grateful for the chance to represent such a successful club,” he said.
“Growing up, playing professionally was always the goal, so to be here now with such a strong organisation is really special. I’ve heard a lot about the Red Army and the atmosphere they bring, and I can’t wait to get out there, compete, and win games.”
Rillie, 23, also spent three seasons at Samford University, making more than 80 appearances.
The 191-centimetre guard adds a special family connection to the Wildcats, alongside his father who played 481 games across five NBL clubs, and has since led Perth to an impressive 57 per cent winning record as head coach.
“Adding Jaron as a DP adds depth in our backcourt. After a successful college career, I look forward to seeing continued growth as he transitions into the pro ranks,” he said.
