“We feel good about where things are at. You've got to be patient."

Perth Wildcats GM Danny Mills says the club is in no rush to fill its final roster spots, backing a measured approach to land the right fit.

"We feel good about where things are at. You've got to be patient. The NBL is a league where we have to wait for other leagues to start making moves before players can start looking at us. We've done that the last two years and felt good about where we've landed," Mills told Pete Hooley at Summer League.

"So we'll be patient. Finding the right piece as opposed to jumping early is what's important."

The Wildcats began their off-season by re-signing import duo Kristian Doolittle and Dylan Windler, while also adding Sunday Dech and Lat Mayen to the local core. With those pieces in place, they're weighing up who to bring in next.

Mills and Perth's powerbrokers are targeting a point guard and a center, working through their shortlist to find players who can elevate the current group.

"There are still some local players out there that are very high level. We've had discussions and we'll continue to do that as we evaluate where our roster's at, who we can add, and who the best players are to complement who we already have," Mills said.

"In a perfect world, you're getting a floor general facilitator, a guy that can really put heat on the rim, get in the paint, and make plays - whether for himself or for others. We feel like if we can land that, it’s going to unlock the offensive side."

Mills views Summer League as a key scouting ground but says the Wildcats are casting a wide net in their search for the right addition.

"You see all these players around, and this is only a fraction of who’s on the market. There are guys who’ve played overseas and aren’t even here at Summer League. So, we just continue having good conversations," he said.

"As the market starts to close here and players start to really evaluate their opportunities, that's when I think decisions will get made."
