Adelaide 36ers owner Grant Kelley says ‘Mike Wells has 100 per cent support’ of the club, as the NBL26 Finals fast approach.

No one inside the four walls at the Adelaide 36ers will say they’re happy with how January went.

During their eight games, the 36ers went 4-4, including their most recent loss to South East Melbourne in Adelaide.

Despite this, though, the Sixers still sit in first place on the ladder, with three rounds remaining, and are in pole position to finish the Hungry Jack’s NBL26 season in top spot.

That’s why the club was so quick to dismiss the chat around ‘special leadership meetings’ regarding the future of coach Mike Wells.

36ers owner Grant Kelley, after speaking with FIVEAA on Monday, doubled down and reiterated that Wells had his "100 per cent support"

“Mike has our 100 per cent support, and why wouldn’t he? He has us at No. 1 on the table, and has gotten us into the Ignite Cup Final,” Kelley said to CODE Sports.

“He is a key reason that we’ve attracted quality players this year.

“We are a confident, united, happy club.”

Wells isn’t shying away from the poor form, saying “I don't want to make any excuses”, rather outlining how the league leaders are going to return to their winning ways.

“There are probably multiple different things, but as a coach, it's got to be the defensive end. You've got to recommit to the defensive end. That's been our focus on the defensive end because you've got to get up,” Wells said in Tuesday’s club media availability.

“We started off [this season] slow on defence. We really crept up in there [third ranked] to almost second, plus rebounding well. I know that when we defend and when we rebound, we're really, really, good.”

With just four games remaining before the post-season, and sitting at 21-8, Wells is buoyed by his side’s opportunity to control their own destiny.

“I think everybody would say if it's February first, and you’ve got four games to go and you're in first place, we'd take that,” he said.

“The journey has been quite a run. I'm super proud of what this group's accomplished, and the support internally has been great.

“I'm excited about the last four games and potentially what we can achieve to end this year.”

Adelaide travels to Wollongong on Thursday night to play reigning champions Illawarra from 7.30pm AEDT, live on ESPN.
