Davis: 'Boo me, I don’t care'

Kendric Davis is fired up for his return to Adelaide in a fortnight, ready to silence the boos from his former team's fans.

As the ultimate competitor, Kendric Davis wants to play the Adelaide 36ers more than any other team.

Ahead of his first regular season game in Kings’ colours, Davis said he expected a hostile reception when he returns to Adelaide in October, but quite simply, he does not care.

“I wasn’t there long enough, so I don’t care … y’all can boo me, if y’all boo me, fine,” he told Channel 10.

Davis said he was still excited to take on his old team, but it was “bittersweet” Montrezl Harrell would not be there, after his departure on Thursday.

“I hate that happened to him, honestly,” Davis said.

“Unbelievable talent. I wish him the best … but I still want to play Adelaide, that’s my old team. I’m looking forward to playing you (Harrell) … it didn’t happen.”

Davis and Harrell engaged in a war of words in recent weeks, after the former said he had been “mistreated” during his time with the 36ers.

The 26-year-old was runner-up in last year’s League MVP, but departed the club soon after the season concluded to join the Kings.

“I didn’t bring them (Adelaide) up. I was asked a question on why I didn’t re-sign, and I answered,” Davis continued.

“That was my opinion. You can’t change my opinion. I hate that it happened like that, because as a competitor, I want to play you now.”

Davis teams up with Matthew Dellavedova and a star-studded Sydney squad for their season-opener on Sunday, and while he has one eye on that must-watch clash against the 36ers in a fortnight, his focus is clear.

“I play for the Sydney Kings and we want to win a Championship here,” he said.

“That’s all I care about.”
