.jpg)
Listen to an exclusive episode of NBL Now to mark International Women's Day.
To mark International Women’s Day, Kelsey Browne (NBL broadcaster), Shannon Jennings (NBL and WNBL referee), and Australian Opals legend Tess Madgen come together for a raw and authentic conversation. They reflect on their journeys into the leagues, discuss the challenges and opportunities of being a woman in sport, and explore the collective power they hold in shaping the future of the game and inspiring the next generation.
Kelsey Browne, NBL Broadcaster:
“What the women are creating in basketball at the moment is really special. There are five or six of us now (in the commentary team), and we’re really trying to pave the way. In the WNBL, there are so many female commentators, referees and ex-players who are really championing the League and everything that it is at the moment.”
Shannon Jennings, NBL and WNBL Referee:
“We get to see what more investment and more involvement feels like, and we get to see what people that feel empowered, what they do and how they act feels like.”
Tess Madgen, Australian Opals legend:
“My favourite time growing up on a Saturday at 5 o’clock … there was only one game of WNBL on TV … and now the young girls out there are so lucky, every single game is broadcast.”
