Hopson’s Agent Talking to NBL Teams

Scotty Hopson’s agent continues to talk to NBL teams ahead of the 2020/21 season according to analyst and commentator Liam Santamaria.
Scotty Hopson’s agent continues to talk to NBL teams ahead of the 2020/21 season according to analyst and commentator Liam Santamaria.
Hopson had a stunning campaign with the New Zealand Breakers last season, making the All-NBL Second Team and averaging 19.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.
The 31-year-old won’t be returning to the Breakers this season and is hoping to land back in the NBA. However, if he doesn’t secure an NBA gig, Santamaria has revealed on NBL Overtime that a return to the NBL is a possibility.
“We have spoken about (him) on numerous occasions on this show with regards to the Brisbane Bullets and maybe Melbourne United,” Santamaria said of Hopson.
“The jungle drums are telling me, I know it’s early, we are talking about when they (NBA teams) make their training camp cuts, but the jungle drums are telling me that his agent is still in communication with NBL teams. That communication is very much continuing to take place.
“I have flagged before that Scotty loves playing in the NBL, and if he is not in the NBA, this is well and truly a place where he wants to play.
“I found it interesting to hear during the week that conversations with his agent and NBL teams are happening again.”
Hopson has been in contact with 2010 NBL MVP Corey Williams recently, who believes if Hopson returns to the NBL, he will be better than last season.
“For him to come back here, he would be confident, and I think he would flow even better,” Williams said.
“Like anybody who had success in their first season in a league, they know the league, the league knows them, he knows the key players, the referees, start to build relationships…I believe if he comes back, he will have an incredible season.”
The 2020/21 NBL season is likely to tip-off in mid-January.
