"I grew up in Perth watching the Wildcats and can’t wait to run out at RAC Arena."

The Perth Wildcats have landed a big Free Agency singing, securing Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. on a two-year deal.

The 213-centimetre center looms as a commanding presence in an already talented frontcourt, which also features Kristian Doolittle and Dylan Windler.

Lual-Acuil Jr. was an All-NBL First Team member in 2022 and Second Team in 2024, as well as being named the league’s Best Sixth Man in 2021, the same year he won a Championship with Melbourne United.

In all, he played four seasons in Melbourne, averaging 11.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks a game.

More recently, Lual-Acuil Jr. impressed in the Basketball Africa League, where he earned MVP honours. He has also suited up in China, Turkey and Egypt in recent times.

“I’m excited to be coming back home,” Lual-Acuil Jr. said. “I grew up in Perth watching the Wildcats and can’t wait to run out at RAC Arena in front of the Red Army.”

Wildcats coach John Rillie said the club was delighted to welcome someone of Lual-Acuil’s ability.

“JLA has tasted success in this league, so he understands what is needed to win in the NBL.  He is one of the elite talents in the league, so it’s exciting for us to add him to our roster,” Rillie added.
