Forward thinking: Wildcats sign emerging talent

Friday, April 4, 2025
The Perth Wildcats have signed Cameron Huefner on a three-year deal.
The Perth Wildcats have locked in their first player of the Free Agency Period, Cameron Huefner, a young forward coming out of the American collegiate system.
Huefner will suit up as a Development Player for NBL26, before moving to the main roster the following season.
The 23-year-old South Australian spent the past three years at Sam Houston State University, where he was a Conference-USA All Conference honourable mention award-winner in both his junior and senior year.
“I’m really looking forward to playing with some professionals and jelling with the guys and understanding what it takes to become a professional,” Huefner said.
“It was always a goal.
“I think it’s probably a top-three league in the world, so knowing that I did have a chance to come back and play in Australia, I will definitely do it."
Huefner has previously played in the NBL1 with the Norwood Flames in his junior years, and Wildcats head coach John Rillie explained his excitement around the emerging talent.
“He’s a really good size, a high-level rebounder and versatile scorer who compliments our front-court nicely,” Rillie said.
“We believe he has the physical attributes to compete at the NBL level early on.”
Huefner will join Kristian Doolittle, Jesse Wagstaff, Elijah Pepper and Tom Gerovich, who are all contracted for NBL26, while the Wildcats are reportedly in negotiations with Dylan Windler for a multi-year deal.
