Kody Stattmann came into his debut professional campaign in the NBL as one of the most highly touted young, local shooters the league had to offer.

After four years playing college basketball with Virginia – which included an NCAA title in his freshman year, Stattmann took some time to adapt to the top level in NBL23.

Although Stattmann initially signed with the Bullets on a full roster deal, ESPN Insider Olgun Uluc believes the 22-year-old could move to a development player spot ahead of NBL24.

“There’s a sense from multiple teams across the league that he’s got a lot of potential … but he’s still got a bit of work to do and got a bit of time to pull all those tools together,” Uluc said on The Marketplace.

“He’s one of the prime candidates to jump into a DP spot – and that doesn’t always mean a demotion.

“We’ve seen DP’s shine across the league in Sean Macdonald, Isaac White, Mason Peatling back in the day ... Luke Travers.

“There are teams who are interested in signing him to a DP and Brisbane is one of those teams.

“If Kody doesn’t find a home somewhere on a roster, there is a DP spot waiting for him there.”

NBL Free Agency kicks off on March 30, with all player, team and mutual options needing to be confirmed by March 27.
