Blitz celebrates Canberra's "incredible NBL history"

The Blitz, the Hungry Jack's National Basketball League’s pre-season tournament will be played in Canberra in August, marking the return of professional men’s basketball to Australia’s capital city for the first time since 2003.

Running from August 27-31, the event will feature five nights of double-headers and high-level competition, as teams fine-tune ahead of the Hungry Jack’s Season.

NBL Chief Operating Officer & Head of Basketball Operations, Vince Crivelli, joined by representatives from the ACT Government & NBL legend Cal Bruton, expressed his respect for “Canberra’s incredible history with the NBL".

"It's a call to action," Crivelli said.

"It's a great opportunity to test the Canberra market and to challenge the basketball community to get behind NBL content.

"We think that Canberra has got an incredible history with the NBL and we'd love to see that history resurrected.

"We'd love to see in future years an opportunity for an NBL team to eventually be back into the competition based here at Canberra."

NBL Legend, Cal Bruton, spoke of his excitement for the event and the impact it will have on the next wave of young talent in the ACT.

“Having the top players from the NBL and all the top teams all here, I think it's a huge opportunity for the next generation to come along and get hyped up behind this magnificent occasion,” he said.

The Blitz will bring a significant commitment to community and fan engagement, with all clubs playing a role in connecting with young players. Ticket prices reflect this commitment to community, with an allocation of free tickets for children and family tickets just $40.‍
