Ben Simmons is weighing up his basketball future, as reports hint he could step away from the NBA entirely.

Australian star Ben Simmons is weighing up his next career move, with reports suggesting he could even step away from the NBA entirely.

According to the New York Post, the 29-year-old is one of six top players still unsigned ahead of the new NBA season, a list that also includes Boomers point guard Josh Giddey.

Simmons signed a five-year max deal with the Philadelphia 76ers but has managed to play just 104 games since the start of that contract, moving to the Brooklyn Nets then Los Angeles Clippers.

Childhood friend and former Philadelphia teammate Jonah Bolden told Code Sports that Simmons is focused on returning to his best at the highest level.

“Ben is locked in on getting back to being healthy and back to playing again,” Bolden said. “It is something he has really dialled down on and realised he has to do as he has matured through the process and got older and grown into himself.”

After battling persistent lower-back issues, Simmons has moved around the league in recent seasons, featuring in the high-profile James Harden trade before finishing last year with the Clippers.

“He is like a punching bag for the media sometimes, maybe because it is a lot of clickbait because it is Ben Simmons,” Bolden said.

All eyes will be on the former number one pick's next move.
