Wildcats to “Move Quickly” on New Coach

Perth Wildcats owner Craig Hutchison has declared the club will move quickly to find a new head coach.
Perth Wildcats owner Craig Hutchison has declared the club will move quickly to find a new head coach.
Scott Morrison’s shock resignation as Wildcats coach, due to family reasons, has left the club without a head man just months before the start of the season.
Hutchison conceded a sense of urgency will be taken during the coaching search.
“We will move quickly. The process starts tomorrow. It will be a thorough but quick process, there will be some considered minds of people making the collective decision, engaging all parts of the club,” Hutchison said.
“We have a relative understanding of the availability market, given we have only been through this a year ago. We will explore those options and others that will inevitably emerge.
“It is important we move forward quickly and with clarity. We will find the best coach we possibly can to arm us and the red army for the years ahead.”
Hutchison said the club wouldn’t be hesitant to hire an international coach again, despite Morrison returning home after one season.
“We wouldn’t rule anyone in or out at this point,” Hutchison said.
“We will explore every possible option to replace Scott and the hole that he leaves. We will find a great coach and we will build a great team.
“It won’t be us looking for a particular style or a particular method of play, it will be us looking for the very best coach that’s available to coach the Perth Wildcats into the coming seasons.”
As the Wildcats move into the offseason without a coach or CEO, Hutchison believes it will be business as usual until the club hires new leaders in those positions.
Hutchison also denied claims the club is in crisis after Morrison’s resignation, and the departure of long-time CEO Troy Georgiu and other front office staff.
“We are in a period of evolution and a period of moving into the next era,” he said.
