"This is my home": Key JackJumper keen to extend

Tasmania skipper Will Magnay says conversations have already begun to extend his stay with the JackJumpers.
He’s become one of the pillars of the Tasmania JackJumpers organisation, and now star big man Will Magnay is keen to extend his stay on the Apple Isle.
During the club’s media availability on Tuesday, the Australian Boomer explained how much he has loved his five seasons in Tasmania and why he’s keen to extend that into the future.
“I love being here [with the JackJumpers], I love Tasmania, and those conversations [about an extension] have started,” Magnay said to the media on Tuesday.
“Personally, I sort of let my agent do that. I just sort of tell him how I'm feeling, and he kind of fills me in with the conversations they're having.
“I haven't heard from him for a few weeks, so they're doing their own thing and figuring it out.
“I love it here, I love this club, this is my home, and somewhere I want to be.”
Across his five seasons with the JackJumpers, the 2024 Paris Olympian has amassed 97 appearances for the club, including guiding them to the NBL24 championship.
Unfortunately, Magnay won’t add to that tally this season, with the club captain being ruled out for the remainder of the Hungry Jack’s NBL26 campaign due to the toe injury.
“Injuries are never nice, but the timing of this one was just a little bit gut-wrenching, just the momentum we had,” he said.
“The support I have around these boys and this club has always been second to none, and still a joy to come in [every day].
“I can hold people a bit more accountable now that I'm watching what's going on and sort of do as I say, not as I do type of thing now.
“It sucks, and it's hard, but I'm sort of trending in the right direction with it. Hopefully, be up and running pretty soon.
“Bones are interesting because you have to just let them heal, because you don't want to put yourself at a higher risk.
“There's no point rushing what I'm doing, as I don't want to do something stupid and come back and re-injure myself.”

While Magnay won't be out on the court, his JackJumpers will host Illawarra on Wednesday in their final home game of the regular season, before the team turns its attention to the post-season.
“It starts tomorrow with Illawarra, and we have to come out and put our best foot forward,” Magnay said.
“It's essentially a Playoff game for us. They're going to want to come out and [want to] finish strong.
“Obviously, they have people playing for contracts and playing for their lives. We can't just come out there and take that as another game.
“We then have a little bit of a break, where it will be important for us to balance our fitness and staying healthy.
“[Our group] has got hunger there to get to the end, and as professionals, we love these opportunities to have a crack [at these sudden death games].
“We know we’ve got nothing to lose, so we will go there [Melbourne or Perth] swinging, and do everyone proud.”
Wednesday night’s Round 22 fixture tips off at 7.30pm AEDT, live on ESPN.
