Champions complete roster with home grown talent

The Sydney Kings' roster for the Hungry Jack's NBL27 Season is officially locked in after announcing the signing of Will Johnston on Tuesday.

The guard, who played with the New York Knicks at the 2026 NBA Summer League, joins Brian Goorjian's NBL champions on a one-year deal.

The 25-year-old will join a backcourt in Sydney that features NBL26 Championship Series MVP Kendric Davis, four-time Olympian Matthew Dellavedova and rising talents Tyler Robertson and Jayden Stone.

Johnston most recently lined up in NBL1 East with the Hornsby Ku-ring-Gai Spiders, where he averaged 28 points, 5.33 assists and 4 rebounds per game.

Prior to returning to his hometown of Sydney, Johnston spent seven years in the United States, firstly finishing his high school at Perkiomen School in Pennsburg, before a two-year stint with South Georgia Technical College. He then joined Texas–Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros for the 2022-23 season, before transferring to Loyola Marymount for two seasons (where he played alongside fellow King Keli Leaupepe).

Johnston finished his time in college with his senior season at Richmond, where he averaged 9.7 points, 3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest.

Rounding out Goorjian's squad for NBL27 are Xavier Cooks, Torrey Craig, Makuach Maluach, Andrew Carr, Harry Wessels and Jason Spurgin.

The Kings open their campaign on Sunday, September 20 against Cairns at Afterpay Arena.
