Tuesday, April 8, 2025
"I had a lot of fun and am proud of the players, coaches, and staff that were on the journey."
Matthew Dellavedova has made his departure from Melbourne United official, taking to social media to thank his former club ahead of a reported move to the Sydney Kings.
"Thanks Melbourne United for 3 great seasons - I had a lot of fun and am proud of the players, coaches, and staff that were on the journey," he said via Instagram.
"I appreciate the fans' support and playing at John Cain in front of family and friends was awesome."
The three-time Olympian was the top free agent prospect this off-season and has reportedly agreed to a multi-year deal with the Kings, according to ESPN’s Olgun Uluc.
The reigning Larry Sengstock medallist was a standout for United last season, averaging more than 11 points and seven assists a game.
Dellavedova’s return to Australia made headlines in 2022 when he initially signed with Melbourne United, before he was picked up by the Sacramento Kings the following year.
Melbourne United came out and thanked their veteran star for everything he has achieved in a social post shortly after.
"After three incredible seasons, we want to thank Matthew Dellavedova for everything you brought to United," they said via X.
"Delly’s impact has been immense and it's been a pleasure to have the Dellavedova family as part of the Melbourne United family. Thank you, Delly!"
Now 34-years-old, Dellavedova has his eyes set on the 2028 Olympics.
