Phoenix unveil new import

South East Melbourne have bolstered their playing ranks with the signing of import forward Wes Iwundu.
The South East Melbourne Phoenix have announced the signing of import forward Wes Iwundu.
The 226-game NBA veteran, who spent time with the Orlando Magic, Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans and Atlanta Hawks, joins Josh King's team and completes their roster.
Standing at 198cm, the former second-round NBA draft pick out of Kansas State will form an important part of King’s rotations this campaign.
Phoenix general manager of basketball operations Simon Mitchell said Iwundu has the attributes to be an extremely successful player in the NBL.
“Wes has some really impressive traits. Firstly, he’s a great athlete and a high-level defender. He has great length, a dogged determination and great lateral speed. He will also bring some perimeter marksmanship,” Mitchell said.
“He will fit into Coach King’s game style well and he’s as excited to get started as we are to welcome him to the Heartland.”
The Phoenix are hopeful to have Iwundu on-court against the Adelaide 36ers on Thursday, October 16.
South East Melbourne next travel to New Zealand to play the Breakers on Sunday at Spark Arena.
The Round 4 fixture tips off at 2.30pm AEST, live on ESPN, Channel 10 and Sky Sports.
