Kai Sotto’s newest high-profile Philippines teammate, Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson, believes the Adelaide 36er has all the tools required to make it to the NBA.

Kai Sotto’s newest high-profile Philippines teammate, Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson, believes the Adelaide 36er has all the tools required to make it to the NBA.

Clarkson, who made his international debut with the Philippines in this past FIBA World Cup qualification window, starred alongside Sotto in the nation’s 38-point victory over Saudi Arabia.

Sotto finished the game with 16 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks, while Clarkson added 23 points of his own.

“The sky’s the limit for him (Sotto),” Clarkson told Philstar. “He’s very skilled, he can space the floor, he can put the ball on the ground and make plays, he can shoot it.

“He’s taking steps in the right direction so I’m happy for him and can’t wait to see him continue to grow."

Clarkson entered the NBA at 22 years of age. Selected with the 46th pick in the 2014 draft, the Jazz guard had a full four-year college career behind him as he entered the league.

Sotto, still just 20 years old, remained unselected at the most recent NBA Draft, but the 2021 NBA Sixth Man of the Year says his national teammate has time on his side to make it to the NBA.

“I didn’t make it to the league (NBA) until I was 22 years old, so he has time to go over,” Clarkson said.

“For Kai, just stay with it – not to get down or give up. I think he’s got a bright future.

“He’s young and he’s just learning.”

Former 36ers star and now Oklahoma gun Josh Giddey was equally as bullish about Sotto's prospects.

“He’s a young kid, but for a guy that big, he moves well and he’s a smart player,” Giddey told the 36ers' website

“What I got to see of him last year I was really impressed. Kai’s a very fun player to watch.

“There’s a lot of upside for where he can get to in the future.”
