Perth has released import guard Mason Jones from his contract.

Just five games into his NBL career, US import Mason Jones has been released by the Perth Wildcats.

First reported by 10 News First's Lachy Reid, the 10-time NBL champions have parted ways with guard Jones, who has played with the Houston Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings in the NBA.

Perth Wildcats general manager of basketball operations and COO Danny Mills acknowledged Jones’ contribution to the club.

“Mason has been a dedicated professional during his time in Perth and handled himself with great character," Mills said.

"We thank him for his efforts and wish him every success in the future."

Through his five games in Perth, Jones produced averages of 9.5 points (on 30 per cent shooting from the field), 2.8 assists and 2 rebounds per game.

This news comes just days after the Wildcats suffered a heavy defeat to Brisbane at RAC Arena.

The Wildcats next play Sydney on Sunday at Qudos Bank Arena, from 4.300pm AEDT, live on ESPN and 10 DRAMA.
