Official: King Delly takes the throne

Thursday, April 10, 2025
One of the greatest Australian players of all-time, Matthew Dellavedova has just about done it all in basketball.
Matthew Dellavedova is headed to the Sydney Kings, with the club officially confirming his signing on Thursday, after days of speculation.
One of the greatest Australian players of all-time, Dellavedova has just about done it all in basketball, with perhaps his greatest achievements an NBA championship with Cleveland in 2016 and an Olympic bronze medal.
Dellavedova played over 500 NBA games with the Cavaliers, Milwaukee and Sacramento, before spending the past two seasons in the NBL with Melbourne United.
He now has the chance to win an elusive NBL championship in Sydney.
"After going through the process and talking basketball with the likes of Goorj [Brian Goorjian], Luc [Longley] and Bogues [Andrew Bogut], all of whom I have a great respect for and have gone into battle with during our experiences with the Boomers, we already have that deep connection and it just felt like Sydney was the right fit for this stage of my career," Dellavedova said.
"There's a lot of trust there with that group, as well as someone like Chris [Pongrass], as I want to continue to elevate my game and help Sydney be in contention to win more championships, while also putting myself in the best position to achieve my goals of representing Australia at both the World Cup and 2028 Olympics.
"[Further to that] being able to work with all those guys, as well as Xavier [Cooks], who I've always had a good relationship with on and off the court, is going to be exciting and I can't wait to get started."
Dellavedova has joined the club on a three-year deal.
