NBL stars dominate Tall Blacks squad

The New Zealand Tall Blacks have unveiled a strong squad, headlined by 11 current NBL players, for their two FIBA World Cup Qualifiers against Australia.

Captained by Melbourne United's Finn Delany, the Tall Blacks will play games against the Boomers in Hobart (November 28) and Wellington (December 1).

Joining Delany, who is averaging 10.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and a career-high 2.8 assists with United during the Hungry Jack's NBL26 season, are Breakers' Taylor Britt, Max Darling, Carlin Davidson, Sam Mennenga and Izayah Le'afa, Brisbane Bullets' Tyrell Harrison and Tohi Smith-Miller, Adelaide 36ers' Flynn Cameron, United's Shea Ili, Cairns Taipans' Mojave King and Akita Northern Happinets' Yanni Wetzell.

"I'm really excited about the squad," Tall Blacks coach Judd Flavell said.

"There’s a long list of names there, and a mix of talent. It’s going to be fun assembling them in this short amount of time.

"We have such a great roster and depth, you know we’re going to ask people to not let a possession go wasted while they’re out there on the floor.

"It’s certainly going to be a fun squad to throw at the Aussies."

That Australian squad features 10 NBL players itself, which is sure to lead to an exciting Trans-Tasman showdown.

Those 10 stars are South East Melbourne's Jordan Hunter, Angus Glover and Owen Foxwell, Tasmania's Will Magnay and Josh Bannan, Sydney's Jaylin Galloway, Melbourne's Dash Daniels, Brisbane's Alex Ducas, Illawarra's Will Hickey and Perth's Elijah Pepper.

Joining those 10 are NBL champions Nick Kay and Jack White, who are currently playing for Shimane Susanoo Magic (Japan) and Mersin MSK (Turkey) respectively.

The two World Cup Qualifiers will take place on Friday, November 28 at MyState Bank Arena, Hobart and Monday, December 1 at TSB Arena, Wellington.
