NBL legend makes big call on Wildcats

Saturday, July 27, 2024
Perth Wildcats legend Ricky Grace has compared the club to the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.
Perth Wildcats great Ricky Grace has assured the Red Army not to worry about the future of the Wildcats' performance amid on-going ownership changes, stating the Wildcats are the "Los Angeles Lakers of the NBL".
Long-time 'Cats fan Mark Arena recently signed a deal to purchase the majority shareholding of the Wildcats from SEN, joining a number of other strong ownership groups in the league, a testament to the growth of the NBL.
There has been some unrest amongst portions of Wildcats fans since Jack Bendat's ownership ended in 2021, but Grace has backed the club's power to navigate through the changes.
Despite changes over the years in ownership, Grace is a firm believer in Perth's reputation and history, no matter who is running into the organisation. The Wildcats have built an empire with 10 titles to their name, becoming a destination club of the NBL, much like the Lakers in the NBA, and Grace says that legacy will always mean the club will be a strong one.
“It’s kind of like how people want to play for the Lakers. I think Perth is the Los Angeles Lakers of the NBL, so it’s always a destination spot for players to come to, which will always be an advantage," Grace told The West Australian.
