Mootyy breaks down the impressive ANZ 2K scene

Coach of the Year Mootyy said he’s impressed with the talent on display in the ANZ region.

After the qualifying rounds in the 3v3 and 5v5 NBL Oz Gaming Tournament Series, Coach of the Year Mootyy said he’s impressed with the talent on display in the ANZ region.

After drafting Harry Spierings from last season’s tournament, Mootyy is excited to try to find a player who has as much potential and could have as much success in the NBA 2K League as he has.

“I don’t want to play any favourites… But there’s been pro-level consistent play throughout that has impressed as a whole,” Mootyy told NBL Media.

“I will say that Team Lock Up’s series win to get them into the 3v3 Grand Final was a great display of composure and grit. Those are two important characteristics that you need in order to be successful in the NBA 2K League.”

The former fourth-overall pick said he’s been impressed with the intensity of the tournament. With cash prizes and 2K eligibility up for grabs, Mootyy’s recruiting philosophy lines up perfectly with the determination the players have shown on the digital court.

I’ve been impressed by the competitive intensity of the games,” he said.

“There’s been an action-packed series that was enjoyable to watch, but after the most recent NBA 2K update, it’s noticeably more difficult to shoot. With that being said, the consistent knockdown shooting from the bigs has stood out for sure."

While Mootyy and his staff have a few players in mind, the spot to play on NBL Oz Gaming is still an open race. He explained what he’s looking for on the final day of the tournament, to see who will be the next Down Under Dog.

“Players can display certain traits that are needed as a professional to help separate them from the rest,” he explained.

“If they can do that on a consistent basis it will help create separation from the pack. I also love seeing or hearing players bring energy and help uplift their teammates no matter the situation. It’s the little things that matter, stick skill isn’t everything when you make it to the big leagues.”
