The South East Melbourne Phoenix confirmed on Tuesday the signing of wing Tanner Krebs on a multi-year deal.
30-year-old Krebs joins crosstown rivals the Phoenix on a two-year deal, following a strong campaign with Melbourne United, in which he averaged career-highs in field goal percentage (44.9), rebounds (3.3) and steals (0.4).
The six-year NBL veteran, who has also played for Brisbane, joins Nathan Sobey, Jordi Hunter, Angus Glover, Owen Foxwell and Ellis Biggar under contract on Josh King’s side for the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 Season.
Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations, Simon Mitchell, said Krebs will form an important part of what the Phoenix are building for NBL27.
“We feel Tanner is a great fit for what the Phoenix is setting out to achieve in this free agency period,” Mitchell said.
“His length, and obviously his shooting ability, will fit in with our style of play.
“He’s an elite shooter, in the prime of his career, who will fit in seamlessly with the returning Phoenix players.”
Krebs has been one of the NBL’s most durable players over the past two seasons, with only Adelaide’s Flynn Cameron (77) playing more games than the Tasmanian product’s 72 appearances.
The Australian Boomer, who is currently playing for Casey in the NBL1 South, has also been one of the league’s best sharpshooters from deep, boasting a 39 per cent hit rate from beyond the arc, and ranking in the top 15 for 3-pointers.
