Melbourne United coach Dean Vickerman hailed Milton Doyle’s poise and leadership after the import’s clutch performance sealed an 88-84 win over the JackJumpers.

On countless occasions during his time in Tasmania with the JackJumpers, Milton Doyle delivered in the clutch.

And it was no different in his first game back at MyState Bank Arena as a Melbourne United player, with the import delivering down the stretch in his new side’s 88-84 win over the JackJumpers - to the tune of 22 points, three assists, two rebounds and numerous big-time buckets.

“Milt made some special plays down the stretch to get us across the line,” coach Dean Vickerman said during his post-game media conference.

“He thrives in big moments and delivered for us tonight.

“I love the calmness that he plays with and thought he was really solid defensively for us too.

“He’s an elite [talent] and we’re fortunate enough to have a lot of guys who have had great experiences in the game and that are winners, so it’s my job to ensure their voices are heard and Milt has been great in assisting that, especially with the younger guys.

“He’s been a pleasure to coach.”

United and the JackJumpers played out a classic at MyState Bank Arena, with Doyle's clutch three with just seconds remaining ultimately the difference between the sides.

Doyle was one several new faces to shine, alongside Finn Delany (12 points, 8 rebounds), Jesse Edwards (10 points, 10 rebounds) and Tyson Walker (14 points, 3 steals).

With Chris Goulding still to return from a quad injury, the signs are bright for the reigning runners-up.

United now return to Melbourne for their home-opener against New Zealand at John Cain Arena on Sunday, with the 2.30pm AEST clash broadcast live on ESPN and Channel 10.
