Goorjian the great: Six-time champion set for big milestone
.jpg)
Ahead of his incredible 850th NBL game as coach, Sydney Brian Goorjian admits he 'feels very fortunate to have been in this league for so long'.
The incredible Brian Goorjian will add another personal milestone to his resume on Wednesday night, when his Sydney Kings take on Adelaide in Canberra.
The Californian-born master coach, who has won six NBL championships, will stand on the sidelines for his 850th NBL game.
This number is close to 200 more than his nearest colleague Lindsay Gaze (651 games), highlighting how impressive the accomplishment is.
"It [the 850-game milestone] makes you reflect on the journey and all the teams and players you've been lucky enough to cross paths with, while also reminding yourself how good life is right now back at the Kings and the present situation the NBL and basketball in this country are in,” Goorjian told Kings Media.
"It's great seeing where those former players and colleagues are now in their lives, with many of them having kids of their own now and succeeding in life away from basketball, knowing we played a part in making them the great men they are today.
"I feel very fortunate to have been in this league for so long and I'm excited to see what the future holds for our club."
During this time as a coach, which included stops at Eastside Spectres, South East Melbourne Magic, Victoria Titans, our Sydney Kings, South Dragons and Illawarra Hawks, the six-time Coach of the Year has a 68.1 per cent win rate (578-271), with an average win margin of 6.9 points.
"Most coaches you come across will say the same thing but our process is very much about being in the present and not looking in the rear-vision mirror, rather keeping an eye on what's next," Goorjian said.
Wednesday’s Ignite Cup fixture against Adelaide tips off at 7.30pm AEDT, live on ESPN.
