Nate takes Taipans home

The Cairns Taipans will today embark on a special three-day preseason trip to Bamaga, the hometown of Nate Jawai.

Bamaga is 1000 kilometres northwest of Cairns and home of the Anggamuthi, Atambaya, Wuthathi, Yadhaykenu and Gudang people. The players will travel around the Northern Peninsula Area (NPA) over three days, visiting Bamaga, Seisia and the North Cape for cultural education and a series of team-building activities.

“I can’t wait to show the boys where I came from and teach them about my culture. It’s a big part of who I am, and they will really learn about the heritage of this country. I am so proud to be an Indigenous man and this experience will be incredibly special to me,” Jawai said.

The schedule for the NBL Blitz has been announced with games to tip-off on November 13, with a double-header featuring Melbourne United v New Zealand Breakers and Sydney Kings v South East Melbourne Phoenix at MSAC.

It will be followed by a double-header of Tasmania JackJumpers v Brisbane Bullets and Adelaide 36ers v Cairns Taipans at MyState Bank Arena. All Blitz games will be streamed on Kayo Freebies.

Ant Hill transformed

Tasmanians will be blown away when they attend the brand-new, world-class MyState Bank Arena on November 14 for the NBL Blitz, according to Tasmania JackJumpers CEO Simon Brookhouse.

“What people will see is not the Derwent Entertainment Centre. The reality is it has changed significantly. It is really striking when you walk in in terms of the fit out and the colour schemes and everything else,” Brookhouse said via The Mercury.

Reinforcements return for Cats

The Perth Wildcats will welcome back Mitch Norton and Majok Majok from injury during the NBL Blitz.

“Mitch is looking great and just building every day…Majok is ready to go,” Wildcats associate head coach Mike Kelly said.
