JackJumping to the Sun
Illawarra Hawks coach Brian Goorjian has compared the Tasmania JackJumpers to NBA powerhouse the Phoenix Suns, after the JackJumpers poured in 22 three-pointers in a win against the Hawks yesterday.
“Everything we did tonight, they just penalised us with the three-ball. It felt like we were playing the Phoenix Suns out there, it was very, very hard to deal with,” Goorjian said via The Examiner.
McCall leads emergency Taipans meeting
Tahjere McCall led an emergency Cairns Taipans players only meeting after the club’s loss to Adelaide yesterday, its seventh defeat in their past eight games.
“Sometimes you can have these player meetings and they can be a bit of fluff, but that was very real,” coach Adam Forde said via Newscorp.
36ers import update
Adelaide 36ers coach CJ Bruton says he is still unsure if the club will add another import to their roster.
“Adding another import, I’m still unsure. But whoever I bring in, culturally he’s got to fit,” Bruton said via Newscorp.
No timetable for Sobey return
Brisbane Bullets coach James Duncan has said he can’t provide a timeframe for the return of star guard Nathan Sobey.
“I hope very soon. He’s back on the court, trying to get himself ready to come back, but I can’t give you an exact timetable for when that date’s going to be,” Duncan said via Newscorp.
Cats trying to energise import
Perth Wildcats coach Scott Morrison says the club is shifting line-ups in an effort to help struggling import Michael Frazier II find confidence and form.
“I wanted to give Mike a new look to see if we could get him energised and get him going a little bit,” Morrison said via The West Australian.
Vickerman happy with United record
Melbourne United set a club record with 31 assists against the Breakers yesterday, a mark coach Dean Vickerman was extremely pleased with.
"Having 31 assists is certainly something that we've been preaching about…how we move the basketball and how we get others involved and share it. I thought everybody was into the celebration of rewarding that extra ball movement tonight. So really pleased with that,” Vickerman said via MSN NZ.
Breakers better than losing margin
New Zealand coach Dan Shamir believes his Breakers side is “better” than what the 35-point defeat to Melbourne indicated.
“Obviously, not a good day for us on a lot fronts and other levels, but I think we're better than that. So that's definitely what my feeling is. Okay, we showed up today, got punched hard, but I think we're better than that,” Shamir said via MSN NZ.
Kyrgios’ love for Kings rookie
Australian tennis superstar Nick Kyrgios has expressed his love for Sydney Kings rookie Biwali Bayles, as the two have formed a strong friendship.
“Biwali’s journey so far is remarkable, and I want nothing but success for my little brother. I love his energy, his passion for the game and how he competes on every play,” Kyrgios said via Newscorp.
United backs Agada
United import Caleb Agada says his Melbourne teammates have provided him constant encouragement during his up-and-down individual campaign.
“I hold myself to a high standard, and I feel like sometimes that could be an issue but Jo (Lual-Acuil) brought me to the side on Saturday and was telling me to play loose, have fun because that’s when you’re at your best,” Agada said via The Age.
