Talking points

Home, not so sweet
For the first few seasons since Tasmania entered the competition, going down to MyState Bank Arena was a fortress and a tough place for opposition teams to win.

However, this year has been anything but a happy hunting ground for the JackJumpers at home.

Of the 10 games they have played in Tasmania, including regional venues, Scott Roth’s team have won just two, while they have won seven of 11 on the road.

Rested and poised to strike
The South East Melbourne Phoenix had a dream rest period over the holidays, being able to utilise a nine-day break before this game.

They were last in action for their open air game, where they dismantled the Brisbane Bullets on December 20.

With some key players carrying some minor injuries, Christmas came early for Josh King to get a rejuvenated team ready to unleash.

What they're saying

Tasmania coach Scott Roth on staying fresh during their hectic Christmas schedule:
"We're just trying to recover here and we play almost every other day moving forward until I think we get to January 4.

"So it's just about trying to rest and doing some light recovery and video work, and then we play again and then we travel, and play 48 hours later again and then come back to play 48 hours later again.

"They're just coming rapid fire and right now it's just about our guys recovering and staying as fit as we possibly can. It's quite the stretch."

Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations Simon Mitchell on signing Ian Clark:
“Ian brings great Championship experience as well as plenty of scoring punch and creativity when we play in the half court. As a club, we have lofty ambitions which are shared by Ian, and we think his addition can assist us in realising them.

“To have Ian join us is a great thing for the Heartland, and his experience not only in the FIBA system in Australia but in the world’s premier league is a bonus for the team as we head into the new year.”
