Talking points
Under the radar
The Phoenix sit second in the standings at this point of the season and have been going about their business quietly.
Josh King has his team ramped up defensively and they’re being led by Nathan Sobey who is playing some of the best basketball of his career.
Recent history in the NBL will show that defence bodes well in terms of championship hopes – so could this be the Phoenix’s year?
David Duke Jr debut
The Wildcats’ newest signing sat out on Wednesday night in Tasmania as he gears up to debut for his new club.
Known for his ability to bring energy on both ends, how quickly does Duke Jr adapt to both the NBL and his team’s playstyle?
What they're saying
Phoenix NBL Next Star Malique Lewis on his side's strong start to the season:
"We're riding the wave right now and everyone's playing well.
"[Nathan] Sobey is obviously leading the way, but everyone's willing to sacrifice for the the guy next to them and that's what that's what makes us a team.
"It all starts off on defence and then everything else just flows into it.
Wildcats coach John Rillie on David Duke Jr:
"He’ll certainly play on Sunday.
"Our job is to make sure we are setting him up for success.
"For him to try to play in Tasmania without a practice and with the amount of air miles he had accumulated over a 48 hour span would have been unfair on him.
“The beauty of him being here for a couple of days, be able to watch a game and now practice, it’s been a nice gradual build up.
"The imports in Kristian [Doolittle] and Dylan [Windler] can given David some good tips."
