Historic Ignite Cup debut excites Breakers

Breakers' Dillon Boucher is excited to bring his fans a 'new brand of basketball' during Wednesday's Ignite Cup clash.

Excitement continues to build ahead of the New Zealand Breakers' first Hungry Jack's NBL Ignite Cup game tonight at Spark Arena.

The magnitude of the historic moment, which will see the Breakers host Illawarra from 5.30pm, hasn't been lost on New Zealand's president of basketball operations, Dillon Boucher, who won four championships with the club as a player.

"Our club is excited about the Ignite Cup," Boucher said to Scoop Culture.

"It’s a fantastic innovation for the NBL that brings a new level of intensity to our Wednesday night games and creates more high-stakes moments for our fans.

"The significant prize money is a brilliant incentive that will ensure every team is fighting tooth and nail from the opening tip to the final buzzer.

"We're thrilled to bring this new brand of basketball to our supporters at Spark Arena."

Why the Ignite Cup matters

- Biggest payday ever: $400,000 in prize money, with 60% going directly to players.

- Real stakes: Every game (not including the Final) counts towards the regular season ladder.

- Midweek blockbusters: Wednesday nights have unmissable moments.

- Ignited gameday experience: New entertainment, new energy, and a new way to experience basketball.

- Every quarter counts: A world-first scoring system ensures constant intensity, with teams battling for ladder points in every quarter, not just the final score.
