Hawks "Pissed Off At Ourselves", Says Star

Illawarra Hawks big man Sam Froling has revealed the players are “pissed off at ourselves” after another disappointing loss and their 1-6 start to the season.
The Hawks lost 86-61 to the Brisbane Bullets on Thursday night, which followed a 82-56 defeat to them on Monday night.
“We’re disappointed…we’re pissed off at ourselves,” Froling said.
“It’s probably things we can try and channel towards the next game, but we’re not happy.”
Froling scored just three points against the Bullets and was benched to start the second half. Brutal in his assessment of his own performance, Froling said he is playing “soft” sometimes and can’t “let my poor offensive decisions” dictate his defence.
Fellow co-captain and import guard Tyler Harvey scored just seven points and as leaders of the team, Froling said they both need to play better.
“We missed some easy ones, we hang our heads, we run back and they get easy ones and you see that score stretch a little bit. I can’t play like that, I think I’m guilty of it, Tyler is probably guilty of it as well,” Froling said.
“We can’t do that because then you’re playing catch up and we didn’t fix it during the game and it just stretched and stretched and we were screwed.”
Hawks coach Jacob Jackomas states they’re at a crossroads with how to approach the season moving forward.
“We’ve said it a couple of times…this won’t happen again…but it’s happening again and again,” Jackomas said.
“I think the message in the room is we have to play well, and I don’t know, practice will help, don’t get me wrong. But our first step is desperation.
“We are struggling to find five guys to play well together right now.
“We just need to make sure we can start to develop a small rotation. As you can see, now we’re playing everyone, just to find some guys.”
The Hawks next play Melbourne United on Saturday at 5:30pm AEDT.
