Harry's advice for players in the Tournament Series

Harry's advice for players in the Tournament Series

Friday, October 20, 2023

Going into this weekend’s NBL Oz Gaming Tournament Series Grand Finals, RealHvzn shared his advice to players looking to get drafted.

After winning last year’s tournament, Harry Spierings’ life has changed dramatically. From assisting his dad on the racetrack, to becoming the point guard for the runners-up in the 5v5 NBA2K League Grand Final.

After a whirlwind year, Harry returned home and is now spending a smaller amount of time on the track as he prepares for the next season.

But going into this weekend’s NBL Oz Gaming Tournament Series Grand Finals, RealHvzn shared his advice to players looking to get drafted and play alongside him on the Down Underdogs.

“My biggest piece of advice for the players in this tournament would be to treat it like any other game,” he said.

“Don’t get too into your own head. Just play free, because when you start worrying about too much, you kind of like don't play how you normally play and too much is going on in your mind. You just got to be free and play your game.”

Now having the experience against the ANZ region and the U.S. region, Harry said there wasn’t much difference in the level of competition.

He explained what international viewers may expect in Sunday’s games.

“I wouldn't say there's a massive difference, so they should see basically what they're used to for the most part,” he said.

“Between like the top three, four or five teams you're gonna see rotations called, all of them. Just gritty games with defence played on both ends, and there shouldn't be many blowouts between the top three, four to five teams. So it should be good ball being played.”

Harry plays for the team No Way Out in the Australia and New Zealand Pro Am League (ANZPL), being a key factor in their win in last season’s tournament.

With being rostered in the NBA2K League, Harry is now ineligible to compete in this series but says he’s going to be closing watching his old squad as the first seed in the 5v5 tournament this weekend.

“I miss playing with them in those types of tournaments because that's kind of what everyone strives to play for and looks forward to,” he said.

“So it's tough not being able to play with them, but it's good to see them winning. And it's nice watching them and kind of cheering them on from the sidelines.”
