The Hungry Jack’s National Basketball League (NBL) and Sportsbet will help raise much needed funds for prostate cancer research this month via its DUNKUARY campaign.
For every dunk in an NBL game during the month of February, Sportsbet will donate $500 to Australian Prostate Cancer.
Australian Prostate Cancer is a charity of The Hospital Research Foundation Group supporting vital medical research into the detection and treatment of prostate cancer, as well as preventing the metastatic spread of the disease.
DUNKUARY, powered by Sportsbet, will commence with tonight's game between the New Zealand Breakers and Illawarra Hawks.
“It was estimated that more than 18,000 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2021, a number which is far too high,” Hungry Jack’s NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said.
“Raising funds for prostate cancer research, to assist with both prevention and treatment, is a vitally important cause.
“We encourage all men, particularly those over the age of 40, to have a regular prostate cancer check-up as an early diagnosis helps saves lives.”
“We’re proud to partner with the NBL on such an important initiative, to not only raise funds, but also awareness around this devastating disease that affects the lives of so many,” Sportsbet’s GM of Marketing, Tim Hernadi, said.
“With any luck it rains dunks during DUNKUARY and the entire NBL community can have some fun in the process.”
The Hospital Research Foundation Group CEO Paul Flynn said the organisation was proud to be supporting world-leading research into the detection, treatment and management of prostate cancer.
“Men’s health is very important to us and sadly, 16,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in Australia every year,” Paul said.
“Advances in research have improved prostate cancer survival rates, but 3,000 men still die each year from the disease.
“A huge thank you to the NBL for raising awareness and funds to fight this deadly disease and bring hope to the men we love affected by prostate cancer.”
In a win for fans, a further $500 for each dunk will also go into a prize pool which will grow throughout the month.
A fan will be selected at random to shoot for the jackpot at halftime of a game on Saturday March 5.
