Melbourne United head coach Dean Vickerman has revealed that club captain Chris Goulding travelled to the US following the Boomers bronze medal winning Olympic campaign.

Speaking on The Huddle, Vickerman shared that Goulding was flown in to try out for the Golden State Warriors ahead of the NBA season, receiving positive feedback from the team following his All-NBL Second Team season in Melbourne.

While he didn't ultimately make the opening night roster, for Vickerman it was indicative of Goulding's ever-growing role with United.

"He went over for the Warriors and had a little try out. The feedback that he got was amazing,"

"You kind of feel like if the opportunity was right on a team that he could have picked up something. He's right there, and he continues to show that and the trust we have in him both as a leader, as a scorer and a continuing, developing defender. His numbers defensively were great last year and they've continued to improve so he's just all about winning right now."

Vickerman was quick to admit that while the possibility of a player being called up an NBA outfit was stressful as a coach, it was seen as a success for Melbourne's program.

"When you're on a plane, and you're flown over there, there's always the worry as the coach and even Jo Lual-Acuil going to Summer League this year,"

"Both of them, with the right situation and right opportunity are NBA players but again, you wish them well and just like we do with Scotty Hop who is going to be around the NBA this year, Yudai Baba who is going to be around the NBA, Jock Landale, all three guys from our program and then we're talking about two other guys from our program as well that are fringe so it's just a privelege to be working with the players that we have."
