Adelaide 36ers coach Mike Wells is excited for the challenge of taking on the Sydney Kings in Canberra.

The 14–3 Adelaide 36ers sit atop the ladder on a seven-game winning streak, but one of their three losses this season came against the Sydney Kings back in Round 4.

That same Kings side is exactly who Mike Wells’ team will face in Wednesday night’s Ignite Cup clash in Canberra.

“That [defeat] was a long time ago, number one,” Wells said during Tuesday's media conference.

“[It was] early in the season and we've changed a lot [since then].

“We give them a ton of credit. They're a good team. They're a long, athletic team, and they like to pressure and do things like that.

“It was hard for me to even identify that team when looking back to be honest with you ... we've grown and changed.”

While that meeting came close to two months ago, Wednesday’s Round 13 matchup shapes as a blockbuster. It will pit two of the league’s leading MVP contenders against each other in Bryce Cotton and Kendric Davis.

The hosts come into the fixture off the back of impressive road wins against Perth and Melbourne.

“I think we've got two teams playing as well as they've been playing,” Wells said.

“We're excited about the challenge.

“They're a good team and we have a ton of respect for them, [so] we're just looking forward to it.”

Going into Wednesday's Ignite Cup fixture, Adelaide sits at 1-1 and Sydney 0-3 in the in-season tournament.

Wednesday's fixture tips off at 7.30pm AEDT, live on ESPN.
