The Adelaide 36ers confirmed on Monday they have mutually parted ways with guard Dejan Vasiljevic.

Vasiljevic played 90 games in Sixers colours since signing on with the club during the NBL24 season, averaging 15.1 points (including 2.6 triples), 3.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

Adelaide 36ers General Manager of Basketball Operations, Matt Weston said Vasiljevic, 28, had made a memorable contribution during his time at the club.

“DJ came to our club at a time when we needed experience and leadership, and he has been really valuable in that space,” Weston said.

“Last season he was asked to play a different role and had some important moments, however as we discussed with him our club’s vision for NBL27 and beyond, it became apparent that we were moving in different directions.

“We are grateful for everything DJ has brought to the club, and we wish him and his partner Paigan well with their next chapter.”

Vasiljevic, who was one of three 36ers co-captains in NBL26, said it was a difficult decision.

“I genuinely enjoyed my time at the Adelaide 36ers. I made a lot of friends and desperately wanted to win for the city and the state of South Australia,” Vasiljevic said.

“It’s hard to leave that behind but basketball careers are short and I need to give myself the best chance to make the most of mine.

“I’m extremely grateful for the way my partner and I have been welcomed and embraced by people in Adelaide, and we’ll take a lot of good memories and strong friendships with us.”

The Australian Boomers’ departure leaves six-time MVP Bryce Cotton, Zylan Cheatham, Flynn Cameron, Isaac Humphries, Isaac White, and Ben Griscti as contracted players on Mike Wells' roster for next season.
